Bathroom Lighting Tips and Small Bathroom Lighting Ideas

One of the most important design concepts of a bathroom is often the lighting. Since we spend a great deal of time in the bathroom getting ready for the day and after the day is over when we are winding down, it is important that there is a sufficient amount of light in the bathroom area. Here are a few bathroom lighting tips that may assist you in completing your bathroom renovation design.

It is important to know what type of lighting your bathroom is going to require. Different areas of the bathroom may require different types of lighting. There are three main types of lighting that you should look for when doing your bathroom remodeling. The first type of light is known as task lighting. This type of lighting is used for what the names says, tasks. Task lighting can be crucial for those task that are to be performed while we are preparing for the day. These tasks may including activities like shaving, applying makeup and other similar tasks.

It is important that your task lighting be as bright as possible without impairing your vision. A great way to increase your task lighting is to choose a vanity mirror that can hold many bulbs. A standard size vanity will hold about four bulbs and many times this can be sufficient enough for good task lighting. There are vanities that only come with two bulbs and this can be okay, but as stated before you want your task lighting to be bright so that you can see what you are doing. There are also vanity mirrors that may hold more than four bulbs. Some mirrors will come with bulb space down both sides of the mirror. Many times this is too much light and also the appearance of the bulbs going down the side of the mirror may throw off the design of the bathroom. If you want to be conservative and have a classic but modern design, stick with the four bulb vanity mirror.

The next type of lighting is known as general lighting. This type of lighting will generally light the entire bathroom. This lighting is not task specific. For this type of lighting you could use recessed lighting in the ceiling of your bathroom. Recessed lighting works well for those days where you want to come home after a hard days work and relax in a warm bubble bath. You can probably guess why task lighting will not work in this case. It is simply too bright. Equip your bathroom with some nice recessed lights and you can come home and turn these lights on dim and relax in a nice hot bath.

The final type of lighting is accent lighting. This type of lighting also is used for what the name says, to accent. Accent lighting can be used to accent objects such as art work. Usually accent lighting will be positioned in such a way that it will shine upwards and give a beautiful accent to an item when the other bathroom lights are dim. It has been said that accent lighting does not work as well in small bathroom because it may give the appearance that the owner is trying to do too much with such a small space. This is strictly a homeowners call though. Some accent light looks absolutely beautiful in any area.

If you are making over your bathroom, do you know what type of lighting you need in order to complete the project? Many homeowners are unaware that there are different types of lighting that need to be installed in different areas of the bathroom. Hopefully these bathroom lighting tips have opened your eyes to some of the many choices of bathroom lighting available.
