Bathroom medicine cabinets, just saying the words can conjure up pictures of childhood, taking us back to the home where we grew up. What bathroom didn’t come equipped with the bulky, wall mounted variety? With its obligatory surface mirror it couldn’t have been more boring.  Almost everything in the bathroom design was boring and dull.

If you’re one of many who find impossible to envision anything else above the bathroom sink, have we got news for you. Today’s bathroom medicine cabinets are almost too chic to house medicine. They range from tradition rectangles with side lighting to oval mirrors that mount flush on the wall and defy recognition. The styles below will familiarize you with some of the options and guarantee an up to date look in your bathroom.

Traditional Wall Mounted Medicine Cabinets

These are the closest to the one’s you remember from your childhood because they are mounted on the wall (as opposed to mounted flush). But the similarities stop there. There’s nothing boring about these bathroom cabinets. They can come in a variety of shapes and sizes – rectangular, square, circular, and an amazing number of variations. Almost all still incorporate a mirrored front. But many add extras, like lighting. The lights might be mounted flush with the mirror to facilitate bathroom tasks, or between the surface and the wall, highlighting the shape and design of the cabinet.

Traditional Flush Mounted Medicine Cabinets

This type of medicine cabinet has also been seen in years past, but once again, modern design has turned the traditional upside down. Mounted between the studs and set into the wall, the only limit is the width between the studs.

Today these bathroom cabinets are almost impossible to detect. They utilize picture frame molding no different from what we find anywhere else in the home. It’s common to see models with ornate gold frames or sleek, black metal contemporary ones. And once again, the shapes are endless, limited only by the design style you choose.

You can also find flush mounted models with only a thin mirror on the surface of the wall, no frame or molding of any kind giving away it’s hidden depths.

Corner Mounted Medicine Cabinets

These cabinets utilize limited space in an innovative way. They are generally more sleek and contemporary in design, with both front and side mirrored. But some traditional models are available. Space within this type of cabinet is more limited, but since it’s space that would be wasted anyway it is often a good trade off.

No matter your design style or storage requirement there’s at least one, of the many types of bathroom medicine cabinets available, to meet your needs.  Also, before making any final decisions with it, be sure to compare with the main bathroom vanity cabinets you have chosen to ensure everything matches.

A sound bathroom remodel can be a daunting task, but if you have visions of gleaming white fixtures and color-coordinated things are intertwined with half-painted walls and a toilet sitting in the hall, you can put your mind at ease. Remodeling a bathroom does not have to be as scary as the stories you may have heard. O.K., sometimes they are that scary, but if you keep things simple it can be a creative and invigorating experience that you think back fondly on. In fact, it will be a creative experience that you can be proud of.

First of all, start out small. No one says you have to rip out the appliances, peel off the wall-paper and sledgehammer the tile in a single weekend. Make a plan. Decide how much you can spend, what you will spend it on and the things in your bathroom you most want to change.

Painting is the easiest way to change the look of a bathroom. At around $35 per gallon of paint it is also one of the cheapest ways. Painting can give your bathroom remodel a completely different look. If your current bathroom is white you might consider a bolder look, say terra cotta. If, on the other hand, your current bathroom is fire engine red then something like white might be the change you need. Can you picture the look? What a difference.

The next step might be changing up the bathroom decor by getting new towels and things to match your new color. Be creative here. Terra cotta walls do not have to mean terra cotta towels, soap holder, toothbrush cup, etc. Mix your colors for a pleasing look. You might, for instance, try sage green to go with your terra cotta, or how about faded turquoise? And if you have chosen a lighter color like white for your new walls, how about mixing that with sunshine yellow and cerulean blue? The choices are endless so choose with abandon.

You can either stop right here, after all your bathroom already looks so much better, or continue on.

If you choose to continue on than the next step might be a smaller appliance like the toilet or a sink. Floors can be covered with throw rugs, but a grimy sink or toilet cannot be hidden no matter how clever you are. Let’s go with sinks for the present since you can close the lid on your toilet for a while longer. There are so many sinks to choose from you will get delirious just wandering the sink aisles (yes aisles with an s) at your local home improvement store. Wander among porcelain sinks, pedestal sinks, stainless steel sinks, sinks that look like a bowl and tiled sinks. So many choices. Go with what makes you happy and revel in your new bathroom remodel.

There are many ways to brighten up a room with new bathroom decor while making it a pleasant and improved place to be. The bathroom oftentimes requires more creative focus due to the smaller-than-average room size but once the ideas start flowing there are many different themes that will work. Before getting started it is important to have a budget limit and a theme for the decor and once these are known the project can begin.

With just a few minor changes it is possible to completely alter the atmosphere of the bathroom with a little time and effort. Details such as wall color or a change in wallpaper are examples of this. The following ideas may be found useful:

Coordinating the shower curtain, toilet seat & tank cover, rug, towels, and any other accessories to compliment each other and the color or wallpaper of the room is a great place to start. The colors and the theme will basically set the stage for the rest of the project.

Adding a healthy and thriving houseplant or two can bring more life to any bathroom. Changing the light fixtures or light covers, or using colored light bulbs can “throw a new light” on the bathroom and reflect the type of atmosphere being sought after. The use of heat lamps may be a good choice but would depend on personal preference. They may be found to be a good investment if condensation or high humidity is a concern since heat lamps help to dry the excess moisture in the air quicker and more efficiently.

Adding new or moving current shelves to a more convenient and useful place can create a new and unique look, especially with selected decor such as knickknacks and/or plant life that can beautify and personalize the project. If the bathroom is small and there is room on the wall for it, putting up an appropriately sized mirror can make the room feel bigger and less confining. A decorated or engraved mirror will brighten up most any bathroom!

Artwork and/or plaques of personal choice that compliment the intended theme can be a wonderful personalizing touch when upgrading your bathroom decor. If painting was a part of the decor upgrade project, the use of stencils and sponges along with a huge palate of colors can produce a very tasteful option to a standard paint job.

Seashells, climbing plants, and fish are common bathroom themes that can become unique themes with rare variations of seashells, climbing plants and fish being used. A mural painted on a percentage of (or all) the wall with unique and beautiful ocean plant life could turn your bathroom into the most popular room in the neighborhood!

Bathroom decor ideas are available nearly everywhere you look: in magazines, books, and on the internet.  The best way to decide what you like best and want to put in your bathroom is by carefully selecting a theme based on the pictures and ideas you find.

It is a private area that can offer peaceful serenity – choosing colors, styles, design, and an overall decorating scheme is important to make this room an even more special place. It is important to plan how you want to revamp your bathroom decor. You can look for fresh ideas that will offer you three key components: decoration, color, and style. The bathroom is probably the easiest and cheapest room to re-decorate in your house. However, it can add up in cost if you are going for a full overhaul.

Lighting is important to any bathroom, so let as much in as possible. Of course if you do not have windows you will need to rely on lights.  You might take a look at your 1950’s faucet. A new faucet can offer a sense of sophistication and uniqueness to the room. This is an item you want to spend whatever it costs to add a little glamor to your sink. It might be the right time to replace your sink as well. If you have the double set, a his and hers, you might want to continue to use them or you might decide to revamp the entire sink area and convert to one sink.

You will soon learn that the focal point to the bathroom will probably be your shower curtain. It covers a large area. It might be the area that offers the most color so you need to choose it wisely. Make certain it blends with the other main colors in the room. If you plan to paint all of the walls in the bathroom you will want to choose colors that blend with the curtain. The same is true if you decide to install wallpaper. You can select one main color from the paper and match it with your curtain.

Other bathroom decor ideas might include new towel bars. They will add a nice sparkle to your room. You might want to change the locations of the present bars and this is the opportune time to do so. All of the bars you install should be a matching style. Like the shower curtain any rug you add will add spark to the floor. Depending on how much floor space you have you should put at least one rug in front of the tub. You might also place one by the sink. If your bathroom is very large you might choose to put one at the entrance. Depending on your taste and style you can add all kinds of accessories from toilet holder stands to toothbrush holders.

Finally, try to find something that makes your bathroom very personal, and remember, in most cases you’ll have 4 walls to work with, so be cognizant of any wall decor you can find.

Finally, if you have an old cabinet that will fit comfortably in the room it will make a great place to store towels. Interesting candles can add color, soften the mood when taking a long bath, or help you find your way if the power goes out. Add your own special touch to the bathroom decor you choose, whether you are simply updating or completely overhauling the room.

So many people are into the DIY remodeling mode these days. Just look around if you have cable and you will be able to see program after program dedicated to remodeling the home. There are even channels out there that have nothing but remodeling advice. Many of the programs are niche related programs that deal with how to remodel bathrooms or kitchens or basements. Well, once you remodel these rooms you will eventually have to accessorize. Here are a few helpful tips in order to remodel your small bathrooms.

Don’t Over Do it

The key to remodeling and accessorizing small bathrooms is to not over do it when you are planning on filling the space with different items. You want to have just enough accessories in there that are needed but not too many these that will just end up cluttering the space. Here are a few items that may look great in a small bathroom:

Paper Towel Holder

You always want to make sure that you have the nice and expensive hand towels that are just for display but you have to remember that people will need to dry there hands after washing them. Fir this you will need a paper towel holder. This type of accessory can be screwed into the wall or just rest on the counter top. They actually make very decorative paper towel holders that rest on the counter top these days. They are much better suited if you are going for a certain style or decor in your bathroom. The paper towel holders that are screwed into the wall are sort of a thing of the past.

Tooth Brush Holder Sets

These types of sets can also be very decorative, even if they don’t contain tooth brushes at all. For example, if you were going for a nice seasonal theme such as winter or fall, you can probably find a nice tooth brush holder set that will match these themes. Pair these with your soap dishes and things of that nature and your counter top is set.

Small Pictures

It is always a good idea to include pictures on the wall of your small bathrooms. This is a way for you to show off your personality a little and give the room some life. This is also a way to incorporate more theme type items into the room. Again, we will use seasonal examples. If you have your winter theme items on the counter top you can compliment these items with a nice portrait of a winter scene.

You may have some grand bathroom decorating ideas, but many homeowners are not fortunate enough to have the gigantic bathrooms that we see on television. The bathrooms that are being remodeled on some of these home improvement shows are massive and many times they start off looking pretty good in the first place. Bathroom decorating for some of these bathroom ideas can become quite costly.  Well, how are we supposed to remodel regular size or even small bathrooms and still get our money’s worth out of the remodeling project? Well, not to worry, there are some great small bathroom decorating ideas that you can use if your bathroom isn’t huge. Here are a few tips for decorating a small bathroom.

Paint

Be sure to select the right colored paint. If you have a small bathroom than you probably already know that light colored paint will make your bathroom look bigger. Homeowners with smaller sized bathrooms should stay away from the darker colored paints. Also, if you are painting your bathroom in order to complete your remodeling project, be sure to paint the ceiling. Often times homeowners will simply paint the walls and leave the ceiling alone. This makes for a halfway done room. A freshly painted ceiling will finish the job properly and really make the room pop.

Furniture

How can you really tell when a room is too small? When you open up the door and you hit something. This is why it is imperative that you position things such as plants away from any doors that could open. This includes the main bathroom door, the shower doors and even the cabinet doors. Positioning furniture away from the doors will give the feeling that the room is large enough to include these items in it but not small enough that they are obstructing people from using the bathroom’s space.

Call a Professional

Often times we as homeowners don’t like to be told how to decorate our homes. We feel as though this is my space and I know what is best for my home. Well, this may not always be the case. There are people out there that are professional interior decorators who specialize in getting the most out of interior space and even implementing your bathroom decorating ideas. If you are at your wits end and you have tried everything and your bathroom still has not come together like you want it to, you may be in need of a professional. Go to your favorite search engine and type in the words “interior decorator” + your local area. For example, if you live in San Antonio you may want to type the following phrase “interior decorator” San Antonio. You should get a list of qualified interior decorators in your area. It may be a bit pricey but a good interior decorator is well worth the money if the finish product is just what you want.

If you are like most homeowners you don’t have a gigantic bathroom to remodel. Most homeowners have smaller sized bathrooms that they would like to makeover. A good first step in a bathroom makeover is painting it. Make sure that you include the ceilings of the bathroom in your plans. Also, make sure that any doors that can open are not obstructed by any other items. Finally, if you have tried everything, call in the professionals and have them take a look. Chances are they may see something that you may have missed. Hopefully these tips have helped you move forward with your bathroom decorating ideas.
